Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed with life? I know I certainly do! A few years ago, my life was a mess. I was newly married when my mother passed away after a fight with brain cancer.
Before the big C entered our lives, I had it pretty good. After five years, I had two degrees in Software Engineering, a fantastic job that was the first step in what was going to be a great career, and amazing people that surrounded me every day. It’s funny how things can change so quickly.
I was not used to feeling like that. Life had always been easy for me. I was the student that got good grades without studying all the time. Failing wasn’t something that I was used to and it hit me hard.
My life was in pieces
My house was a mess. There were boxes of all this stuff everywhere and I felt paralyzed to cleaning it all out. I was working full time and barely sleeping. I was always rushing around doing all these things that I felt like I “should” be doing.
There were piles of laundry overflowing from the laundry basket, I couldn’t remember the last time I put makeup on, and I couldn’t even see the light at the end of the tunnel. And the worst part of it all was that I did it to myself. I had these high standards for myself and I punished myself for not meeting them.
Time for a change
I realized at that moment that something needed to change. So I decided to wipe the slate clean and start over again. I made some big changes and redefined my priorities.
Using my newly found clarity on what mattered to me, I was able to say no to certain things, and I found solutions to some of the problems I’d been having.
I’m not perfect and sometimes I still get overwhelmed. There are days when my house isn’t as clean as I’d like it to be, but I don’t let that define me. I’m the happiest and calmest I’ve ever been despite having a few curveballs thrown at me lately.
A better picture
Here I am, with a semi-clean and organized home, a part-time job that I love, a toddler who is my entire world, the fluffiest dog that keeps me happy, a husband I adore, and lots of advice to give so that you can stop stressing about the stuff that doesn’t matter and start focusing on your priorities.
Help me help you have a better and more productive life. I’m excited for you to see how this stuff just works. Thanks for joining me along the ride!
