I consider myself a busy person as I’m sure most moms out there do. I take care of my child, work outside our home three days a week, run this blog and two Etsy shops. On top of that, I also run errands, do housework, do yard work here and there, and try to keep up with my family and friends. It’s enough to make anyone go insane without some type of system! This is why I’ve turned to my planner.
I discovered planners a while back and now I organize my life differently. I’ve recently settled in on the Happy Planner. It’s my new obsession because I love being able to make it mine without having to find and customize a layout every week.
My planner includes each month’s layout. I use this to track appointments, commitments, and track monthly stats. This is where I turn when I’m making plans with someone to see at a glance what I have coming up for the week and what my other weeks look like. For each month, I come up with a few goals and I routinely look at them to make sure that I’m getting closer to my goals. I don’t go crazy decorating, but I do use colorful stickers and stamps to make it mine a bit more. I also track my sales so I can spot trends over time. It has saved me more than once trying to figure out if it was recycle week or not!
Every week I have a layout. There are three boxes for every day. The top box tracks my appointments and what I have planned for the day. This is where I can see what my “big task” is and make sure that I’m organized. The middle box is for my to-do list for that day. It’s really interesting to me because two days during the work week are mostly tasks for housework and then three days when I’m at my “day job” they are work related tasks. It’s interesting to see the balance.
The bottom boxes are used to organize weekly tasks. They aren’t specific to each day but each one tracks something important. I track things like social media posts, orders that have come in, new item’s I’ve created, larger projects, and my weekly review. It’s really nice to be able to go back and look at where I was last week and what I accomplished if I ever get down.
What To Do With Empty Planner Boxes
Sometimes I end up with empty boxes (this happens a lot on weekends) and I tend to fill them with positivity. I think about wins for the week and jot them down or random thoughts that come into my head. What I love about my planner is that it’s for me only. I don’t have to share so whatever works for me is what I do!
I also have a lot of lists. One of the things I love about the Happy Planner is that I can add and take out pages where ever I want. I have a special hole-punch so I make lists on smaller pages and add them accordingly. When I’m done with that list, I take it right out of the journal and things stay streamlined and organized.
So there you have it! My big secret to being organized and staying on top of all the different aspects of my life!
